8 Tips for Caring for Damaged, Bleached Hair

Turning from medium brown hair to platinum blonde hair is an unforgettable experience. I became a master DIY hair care master, including learning how to maintain a platinum blonde hair. It’s not a lie that the stylist said that this is a color that requires a high degree of maintenance. There are a lot of things you need to incorporate into your hair care routine, and you need to put in some extra effort for your hair.

All bleached hair will eventually be damaged. It took me many times to bleach to change my hair from brown to white blonde, and it was destined to suffer. You need to be especially careful to ensure that you do not accidentally cause further damage. If you don’t, your hair may die and can’t be recovered.

If you follow these tips, your platinum-blonde hair will be as beautiful as it was at the beginning until you’re ready to change color!

1. Avoid heating your hair

Heat can damage your hair, and using any type of heat can make the damage worse if the hair is already damaged. You should avoid hair dryers, curling irons, hair straighteners, etc. If you can, eliminate heat treatment from your hair care routine. Wash your hair with warm water instead of hot water.

2. If heat must be used, buy a thermal insulating spray

For certain activities and hair types, you will have to use heat. It seems inevitable. In these cases, you need to use a good thermal protection spray. The thermal protective spray provides a protective layer to your hair, allowing you to get the look you want without damage. I used Tresemme insulating spray and it worked very well.

3. Wash your hair only 2-3 times a week

Shampoos can cause damage to your hair and deprive it of the natural oils needed to keep your hair shiny and healthy. Instead, implement a new habit that involves washing your hair as little as possible. If your hair is naturally oily, choose some dry shampoo.

4. Focus on fixing your hair

Once the hair is damaged, you need to turn your attention to repairing the hair. There are a lot of products you can use. Some rely heavily on oils and serums, while others work on more natural remedies like coconut oil.

Personally, I use leave-in conditioner every day. These are essential for hydrating your hair. If your hair is damaged, it is likely to be too dry.

Fixing damaged hair means you shouldn’t use cheap shampoos. If you can’t find an affordable brand for your hair type in the salon, consider other brands such as Pantene, Whole Blends, or Aussie. These products are all great for damaged hair, but they are cheaper than professional products.

 

5. Use conditioner regularly

Conditioner is the best friend of damaged hair. Once the hair is damaged, it no longer has a protective outer layer. Conditioning after shampooing and regular deep conditioning helps restore the outer layer of hair. It covers your hair, providing extra protection until your hair is also repaired.

 

6. Use purple shampoo once a week

If you’ve recently dyed your hair white, you may not have noticed the appearance of brass or yellow tones. It may take a few weeks before you start noticing the current yellow color of gray hair. The purple shampoo has violet tones that counteract orange, brass and yellow tones. If you use it once a week, you will never have to face the problem of gray hair slowly turning yellow or orange.

7. Be prepared to go to the salon every few weeks

If you’re going to care for your hair at home, you’ll need to stock up on bleach to care for your hair. Those who prefer to give it to a professional need to plan to go to the salon every 3-4 weeks. It won’t be long before your black roots start to grow again, and they’re growing much faster than you think.

 

8. Avoid excessive sun exposure

The sun releases a lot more heat than the styling tools. Too much sun exposure can quickly damage already damaged hair. It can also help your yellow and orange tones manifest faster than usual. If you’re going out for a long time, consider wearing a hat to minimize injury.
