Pros and Cons of Lip Balm

Date:

Lipstick is everyone’s go-to medication for chapped lips. It has a delicious flavor that doesn’t bother you when you lick your lips, fits in your pocket or purse, and is perfect for your lips during the terrible winter months filled with dry cold air. However, there’s a lot to know about Chapstick before you go to the store next time you buy a lipstick. Not all Chapsticks are created equal. Using this convenient lip drying treatment may come with some drawbacks.

Chapped Lips Are Experienced by Everyone

Chapped lips seem to have become a part of life. This may be because we drink less water in certain seasons because the weather is not so hot. The air itself is very dry, which makes it easier for your skin to dry everywhere, including on your lips.

Although chapped lips are common, it doesn’t mean you have to suffer for months on end. Lip balms, lipsticks, Carmex, lip scrubs and other exquisite lip care products are all available to keep your lips smooth all year round.

It’s important to make sure you understand these products so you can choose one that helps you and not make it worse.

What Is Lip Balm?

These are small cosmetic tubes similar to lipstick. They should prevent chapped lips. Most companies have their own special recipes.

This means that some products may offer additional benefits, such as nourishing lips and providing sun protection.

The Most Common Lip Balm Ingredient

Because each company formulates its own lip balm, they all have their own ingredients. For example, some balms contain beeswax as a substrate, while others contain more oil.

However, some ingredients are more common than others. Learn more about lip balm ingredients to make sure you choose the right lip balm for you and your chapped lips.

Beeswax

Beeswax is used to help cover the lips, reducing the chance of dry, chapped lips due to cold air. If the weather can’t reach your lips, it won’t hurt them!

The downside is that when bees make beeswax, it also contains a substance called propolis, which bees use in their hives. More than 1 in 10 people tested developed contact dermatitis as a result.

If you are allergic to honey or have ever had contact dermatitis problems, pay attention to whether the ingredient is listed. It causes peeling of the lips.

Fragrance

Spices is an umbrella term used by companies on ingredient lists. It can be used as any substitute that makes the product smell good. Perfume can mean an essential oil or several known carcinogens, and if you know they will appear on your lips, you will never approach them.

Because how companies make their products smell delicious is considered a trade secret, they don’t need to tell consumers what’s in the product. Instead, they must simply label it as “perfume”. Avoid this. If this is the only word used on the ingredient list, then you don’t know what they use as a perfume.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is making a big comeback in lip products compared to recent years. This is because more and more of us are choosing natural products. This is also because many consumers are already aware of the many benefits of coconut oil.

Toxic Ingredients

Some lip balms contain toxic ingredients. Some may cause contact dermatitis but not others, such as vitamin E oil. There are others that will make you double-check the ingredient list before picking up your lipstick.

Types of Lip Balms

Personally, I still own a tube despite being well aware of the toxic ingredients in Chapstick. If it’s cold and my lips are dry, it’s in my purse. I haven’t had any adverse reactions to it yet, so I can use it occasionally without makeup.

If you are planning to buy a tube of lip balm, it is important to know the different types of this product on the market so that you can find one that meets your needs.

Flavored Lip Balm

Flavored lip balms are wildly popular, especially among children and teens. If you lick your lips a lot, you’ll love the flavored lip balm that tastes delicious! From candies like rainbow candy to Coca-Cola, you can imagine products for every taste.

(My youngest daughter loves candy-flavored lip balm!) Most flavored lip balms also have other benefits, such as containing coconut oil or SPF ingredients.

Tinted Lip Balm

Tinted lip balms are often available in a variety of pinks to add a touch of color to your lips while also protecting them from inclement weather. If you’re a little annoyed by having chapped lips that can’t put on your favorite lipstick, tinted products can offer a nice compromise.

SPF Lip Balm

Lip products with SPF are designed to protect your lips from chapped and harmful sunlight. Sunlight can damage your lips, making them drier and more susceptible to natural factors. Products with SPF are also often used as flavored or tinted lip balms.

Coconut Lip Balm

This is any lip balm that contains coconut oil. This is the most moisturizing lip balm I’ve ever used. In fact, when my kids are at home, I use coconut oil instead of lip products. It prevents your lips from becoming dry, and it comes in a convenient tubular form that’s perfect for keeping in your wallet.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Using Lipstick

Lipstick is one of the most popular items for winter, especially if you live in a state known for harsh winters. While it may be convenient, it does have some different pros and cons that you need to keep in mind before buying a tube in the store next time.

Advantages

Convenient

No one can say that Chapstick is inconvenient. It has a small tubular shape that fits perfectly anywhere, from the car to the men’s pocket. It is also readily available. Most stores have lipstick next to the checkout counter to cope with the long, colder months.

Affordable

Lipstick is also one of the most affordable options. You can buy a tube for a dollar. Some versions may be a little more expensive, such as flavored varieties, but that doesn’t mean all lipsticks are expensive. In fact, it is more affordable than any other remedy.

Disadvantages

Lipstick Will Make Your Lips Drier

While lipstick can provide temporary pain relief, this relief may come at a cost. Lipstick works by applying a thin layer of moisture to the top of the lips. When this thin layer dissolves, you will find that your lips are still dry. This is because it does nothing to help the lips heal. When it evaporates, it dries your lips.

Toxic Ingredients

The toxic ingredients contained in lipstick are one of the main reasons why people throw lipstick tubes in the trash and opt for natural remedies. Keep in mind that if the label says perfume, you won’t know what’s in that tube.

So, should you use lip balm?

It doesn’t hurt to use Chapstick occasionally. It should be used to protect your lips in winter or in the sun, not as a solution for dry lips. When using lipstick, be sure to use it with caution.

When you need something every day to relieve dehydrated, chapped lips, consider an all-natural home remedy like coconut oil. A proper lip care routine is also essential to keep lips smooth as satin.
