How to Steam Clothes: The Benefits of Steaming and Ironing

Date:

I hate ironing. Without a good steamer, my clothes would be a crumpled mess. It can make your outfit look glamorous. Learn how to use and maintain your garment ironer. Not ready to give up your iron? Learn about the benefits of using a garment ironer.

How to Use a Hanging Iron?

Most steam ironers make it easy to prepare steam. Please read the instructions for the steamer, as some have unique steps. Generally, the following steps are required for steam ironing:

  1. Fill the steamer with water. Make sure not to fill beyond the maximum fill line.
  2. Now connect all accessories, such as pet hair or lint remover.
  3. Find a stable surface for your garment ironer, whether it’s a handheld or vertical garment.
  4. Insert the steamer and let it heat. Some steamers spew steam during the heating process. This is normal.
  5. When ready, pick up the handheld part of the steamer and press the button to blow out the steam. This removes rusty water that may have accumulated.
  6. You’re ready to steam your clothes.

I always test steam several times with a steam engine before applying it to clothes. Even higher quality steamers can accumulate some rust or clogging. If you go straight to making clothes, these will end up on your clothes.

How to Steam Clothes?

The process of steaming clothes is simple:

  1. Insert into a handheld or vertical steamer.
  2. It is best to hang the clothes so that they hang freely. Use a shower rod or hook.
  3. Start at the top of the garment and work your way down.
  4. Hover the steamer directly over the fabric and slowly move down.
  5. Continue down through the garment until all wrinkles are gone.
  6. You may need to return to the problematic location and keep the steamer longer.

A good steam ironer can give most clothes a new look in just a few minutes. I have a Secura handheld garment ironer that is still powerful enough to complete a set of clothes in 5 minutes.

Steam Clothes Vs. Ironing Clothes

If you are used to ironing, then steam ironing clothes is almost like cheating. Is a garment garment steamer different from a traditional iron? For creases on pants or shirts, a traditional iron is the only way. But in addition to this, a steam iron can do all the tasks that an iron can do.

Why Steam Is Better Than Ironing

In addition to creases, a garment garment of steamers works better than irons in almost all cases. The convenience and usability of the steamer is truly unparalleled.

Setup Is Simple and Portable

Ironing requires taking out a bulky ironing board. That’s enough for me to avoid doing this. But the steamer just needs to hang your clothes somewhere, and you’re ready to go.

Be Gentle with Clothing

It’s really hard to damage your clothes with a steamer. When using the iron, I am not sure if the heating time is too long or the temperature is too high.
A steam ironing machine also allows you to care for more fabrics. I know that I really shouldn’t iron wool and silk shirts, but they can wrinkle from the washing machine. I try to lay them flat and place them on a rack or hanger to dry. But wrinkles ruin the otherwise shiny garment. My steamer came to the rescue!

Pet Hair and Fluff Removal

With the right attachment, you can remove pet hair while steaming. In my home, this is essential because dog hair and wrinkles plague all our clothes.

The epilator attachment must be cleaned regularly. But it saved me the hassle of disposable rollers!

Tips for Steam Ironing Clothes

Once a good garment ironer becomes part of your laundry care, check out some of these tips to make steam ironing more effective.

Set up a Special “Steaming Station”

You may want to set up a dedicated steam zone in your home. This makes the steaming process easier and faster. You also have an area to safely store your steamer.

I have an area next to my dresser for steaming. There’s nothing fancy about it: an outlet, a hanger for hanging clothes, and space on the dresser to store the steamer. I could steam my clothes the night before and hang it up until morning. More often, I’m lazy and leave it until the morning, but I’m able to get my clothes and my husband’s shirt on in minutes.

Start with Drying

The easiest wrinkles to get rid of are those that don’t exist in the first place! If only for touch-ups, steam will be much easier. It takes a while to dry the entire completely crumpled garment.

Learn how to properly dry each type of clothing you wear. Tip: It may not be in the machine! Following the proper drying process will make your wrinkles less and your clothes will be more durable.

Most of my shirt tops are hung up to dry, and everything is hung on hangers at the end of the drying time. That’s why my steam time is so short: clothes just need to be groomed to look shiny!
