10 Tips to Get Rid of Dry Skin on Your Lips

The lips are one of the few areas of the body that do not have oil glands. For example, when your face is dry, the sebaceous glands increase their secretion to help keep your face moist. The lips cannot do this and therefore dry more easily. This, in turn, causes the dead skin to begin to peel and peel.

If you’re like me, winter weather can easily lead to dry, chapped lips. It begins when the cold autumn air hits. Before you know it, you wake up with chapped lips. Dead skin comes off, can’t apply lipstick, and doesn’t look good. There are a few things you can incorporate into your daily routine to make your lips soft like a kiss every day of the week! Follow these ten tips to get rid of dry skin and prevent it from happening again.

1. Gently Wipe Away Dead Skin with a Toothbrush

After brushing your teeth in the morning, make sure to rinse off all the toothpaste from your toothbrush. Then, use the toothbrush to gently rub in circular motions along your lips. This can help remove some dead skin from the lips. It’s a cheap, effective exfoliating alternative that you can do every day.

2. Moisturize to Help Dry and Chapped Lips

Coconut oil is one of the best ways to moisturize your lips! When to use coconut oil depends on your makeup habits. If you prefer to wear lipstick or lip gloss, apply coconut oil at night before going to bed. If you don’t like makeup or stay away from lipstick, you can carry a small jar of coconut oil with you to apply throughout the day.

To apply coconut oil, dip your fingers or cotton swab in coconut oil. Then, apply a small amount to the lips. Remember, a little bit will go a long way!

3. Make Sure to Stay Hydrated

Keeping your body properly hydrated starts from within. Make sure to retain moisture to help prevent dry skin. If you don’t like plain water, try:

  • Water-rich foods, such as watermelon
  • Water enhancement option (I really like Mio)
  • Gatorade or Powerade
  • Water with a slice of lemon

As long as the body is well hydrated inside, the outside of the body will be more hydrated!

4. Turn off the Fan in Winter

When the wind continues to blow on the face, it can cause dry, chapped skin. The same happens when you sleep with the fan on. If you need white noise to fall asleep, consider using a white noise machine or keeping the fan away from your face at night.

5. Prevents Sinus Congestion and Helps You Sleep with Your Mouth Closed

Even if you don’t breathe through your mouth all day, there’s a good chance you’re sleeping with your mouth open. The moment your nose is blocked, you open your mouth in your sleep. Pick up some decongestants to stop breathing through your mouth. This is often the culprit for dry skin in the morning.

6. Exfoliate the Lips

A lip exfoliation is like a face exfoliation. You rub a lip scrub on your lips. Then, leave it on at the time indicated by the instructions. Usually, this only takes a few minutes. Finally, rinse it well.

I use this organic lip scrub and it works really well. The instruction manual says to use it twice a week, but I use it every Sunday routine and it works very well.

7. Develop a Lip Care Routine

A lip care routine is very important to ensure that your lips remain smooth. Exfoliating once is a good idea, but you need to stick to it to see lasting results. My lip care routine includes a weekly exfoliation and a nightly application of coconut oil.

Then, I make adjustments as needed. If I have a cold, I will eat something before going to bed. When I broke my own rules and picked my lips, making it worse, I escalated to neosporine lip treatment.

8.Carry Lipstick or Lip Balm in Your Purse

When lips are dry, moisturizing throughout the day is required. Keep in mind that they cannot moisturize themselves. Pick up some lipstick or lip balm and put it in your purse. Over time, apply it whenever your lips feel dry.

9. Invest in Neosporine Lip Care to Heal Lip Crusts

I tried not to pick my lips. I’ve been very good at sticking to proper lip care for the past few years. Before that, I couldn’t help but pick my dead skin. A friend of mine bought me some overnight neosporin lip treatments and I’ve been a big fan of it ever since.

10. Don’t Lick your Lips!

Licking your lips can be a disaster. Saliva contains powerful enzymes to break down food. If it can help break down half of the food that was eaten by eating too quickly, imagine what it would do to the delicate skin on your lips! Instead, use lip balm or lipstick.

If the skin of your lips is already dry, take precautions to make sure it doesn’t get worse. Then, continue to use them and perform a lip care routine to ensure that dead skin does not fall off the lips in the future.
